Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn for charges including racketeering, transportation for prostitution, and s*x trafficking.
On April 26, 2025, a judge ruled that the video of Diddy chasing his then-ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel in Los Angeles will be allowed to be included in his upcoming s*x trafficking trial, which will begin on May 5.
Although Diddy's lawyers argued earlier this month that the video is inaccurate and hence should be used in the trial, the judge denied their request.
Cassie's assault video to be included in the upcoming trial
In November 2023, Cassie Ventura, Diddy's then-ex-girlfriend for over a decade, filed a lawsuit against him. In the lawsuit, she accused him of years of abuse, domestic violence, and r*pe. This was the first lawsuit that was filed against Diddy, after which many more lawsuits began pouring in.
The next day, Diddy and Cassie settled the lawsuit. Next year, in May 2024, CNN released a video that dated back to March 2016. In the video, Diddy was seen in a towel, chasing Cassie. He was seen hitting her, dragging her, and shoving her near an elevator, and then throwing a vase at her. The video clip was of a hotel in Los Angeles. The video had caught the attention on social media.
A couple of days later, Diddy shared a video of himself apologizing. In the video, he described his mental state back then and also said that he had taken professional help. In the video, he said:
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that,” he said in the clip. “I was f—ed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”
The video continued:
“I went out and sought professional help. Had to go into therapy, into rehab. Had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
A few days later, Cassie had posted a statement online, thanking her fans and followers for their support. As per USA Today, earlier this month, Diddy's lawyers had filed documents in which they stated that the video footage of the assault was not accurate and could mislead the court. Their request was denied by the judge.
The judge stated that the video was fair and accurate, and added that during the trial, the video could be slowed down and shown to the jurors. The trial is scheduled to begin on May 5.
