The suspect in the fatal Frisco track meet stabbing, Karmelo Anthony, has been released on a bond of $250,000. 17-year-old Anthony was arrested by the police and detained at the Collin County jail on April 2, 2025, after he allegedly stabbed fellow trackster Austin Metcalf to death at the Frisco ISD track meet on the same day.

Karmelo, who attends Frisco High School, was originally charged with a bond of $1 million and was granted a reduction by a Colin County judge on April 14, 2025. The suspect will be required to wear an ankle monitor and stay inside his parent’s home.

More details on the bond hearing for Karmelo Anthony as he is charged with first-degree murder

Anthony’s attorneys filed to reduce the teenager’s bond from $1 million to $150,000 after he was taken into custody on a charge of first-degree murder. His defense attorneys, Billy Clark and Kim Cole, in a press statement, stated that the $1 million bond was “excessive” and expressed commitment to making sure that their client is given a fair trial.

During the bond reduction hearing, Mr. Anthony spoke about his son’s character, testifying that his son was an “A” student and captain of his track and football teams. He also stated that he couldn’t afford the $1 million bond as he was the sole provider of their family.

Prosecutors questioned Mr. Anthony about a previous assault case involving his son on February 4, 2025, that was handled internally by Frisco ISD. They also wanted more details on the sum of $412,000 donated online for the family and why they hadn’t used it for Karmelo’s bond.

Klark and Cole, the defense attorneys, argued that the funds raised online would be used for the family’s needs as Mr. Anthony had taken leave from work. They added that the $1 million bond was “unusual” as Karmelo Anthony had no criminal history.

According to reports from eyewitnesses, Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf were involved in a verbal dispute at a Frisco ISD track meet before the former pulled out a knife and stabbed the latter once in the chest. He surrendered to the police and was reported as asking if Metcalf was going to be okay and also asked if his actions could be construed as self-defense.

The attorneys for the Anthony family released a statement on April 7, 2025, expressing sadness that a life was lost in the incident and offered their condolences and prayers to the Metcalf family.
