Robert Gorrie cast as OLTL's Matthew

For the first time in more than a decade, a new actor will play the role of Matthew Buchanan. Robert Gorrie has been cast by One Life to Live, taking over from Emmy-nominated Eddie Alderson, who first appeared as Matthew in 2001.

Robert Gorrie has been cast as One Life to Live's new Matthew Buchanan.

In January, One Life to Live announced that it would be recasting the roles of Matthew Buchanan and Destiny Evans. The move surprised some fans.

For more than a decade, Eddie Alderson brought Matthew to life. The actor, whose sister, Kristen, played Starr Manning on the show, began his run as Matthew in May 2001. In 2008, the actor was placed on contract, where he remained through the show's final episode in 2012. That same year, Alderson received his first Daytime Emmy nomination.

Alderson did not sign on with Prospect Park during its initial attempts to move One Life to Live online. He and his sister relocated from the East Coast to the Los Angeles area. It is not clear if he was contacted about reprising the role.

Gorrie, meanwhile, joins One Life to Live with some daytime experience. The actor appeared on As the World Turns as Nate Bradley in 2006. Gorrie has also appeared in primetime, with guest roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and The Good Wife.
