British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo has been announced as the headliner for the World Pride two-day music festival. Erivo is scheduled to perform at the two-day street festival in Washington, DC, on June 7, 2025. According to the World Pride organizers, the free festival symbolizes "unity" and "resilience" of the LGBTQI+ community.
Per the Pink News, Cynthia Erivo will be performing concurrently with Jennifer Lopez at a different location. Her headline slot is set in Pennsylvania Avenue NW on the first night. The news comes after Erivo and her Wicked co-star, Ariana Grande's performance at the Oscar Awards on March 2, 2025. The duo opened the Awards night with a medley of the Wizard Of Oz songs.

Cynthia Erivo shares her excitement to headline the World Pride music festival
Oscar Award nominee Cynthia Erivo is all set to headline the Pride festival. Capital Pride DC took to its Instagram to share the news and noted that it takes "place on the Capitol Stage" and is a celebration of "love, Pride, and community."
In an exclusive interview with Metro Weekly, Ryan Bos of the Capital Pride Alliance noted that he is "thrilled" to have Cynthia onboard. He noted that he "personally" has "loved" and "admired" her work from Broadway performances to the most recent, Wicked. He expressed his excitement and gratitude for having her as the headliner and noted,
“Cynthia Erivo’s powerful artistry and unwavering advocacy make her the perfect artist to headline this momentous event”.
Erivo reposted the story on her Instagram story to share excitement before the performance and wrote,
"See you at World Pride!!"

Cynthia Erivo has been known for her advocacy of LGBTQI+ rights. In February, GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) announced that the actress will be "honored with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award" at the GLAAD Media Awards on March 27, 2025. According to GLAAD, Cynthia has made a "commitment" to represent black and queer identities through her performances. The media advocacy organization described her as,
"A powerhouse talent and force for equity and inclusion."
Although Cynthia didn't take away an Oscar this year, her performances have been lauded by audiences worldwide. Over the years, she has prided herself in representing the complexities of people from Black and queer communities. Owing to her multiple contributions towards inclusivity, Cynthia makes for an obvious choice to celebrate the Pride festival.
