Miley Cyrus’ brother Trace Cyrus has slammed Katy Perry for copying Miley’s style and career moves. He mentions multiple instances where it seems like Katy Perry has copied Miley Cyrus, to save her "dying" career.
On April 18, 2025, through a video clip, he specifically pointed out that the Woman’s World singer imitated Miley’s iconic short haircut from 2012, four years later in 2017. He said:
“When her career was first dying and they were like, ‘Hm, what can we do? Well, what worked for Miley? She cut her hair off, and it broke the internet, and everyone freaked out, and she bleached it blonde. We should do that with you, Katy.”
He continued to rant against the singer, stating that her imitation didn’t work. He also called out the 40-year-old for copying Miley’s musical collaborations. He said when Miley transitioned to hip-hop music, the Dark Horse singer also did so.
He said after his 32-year-old younger half-sister started working with hip-hop artists like Mike WiLL Made-It, Wiz Khalifa, and Juicy J—highlighting tracks such as 23 and We Can't Stop in 2013, Perry followed suit by collaborating with the rap group Migos on her song Bon Appétit, which was released in 2017.
That was not all, he also slammed her for experimenting with EDM and her recent space trip. Here is what we know.
Trace Cyrus slams Katy Perry for her recent trip to space. All we know about the singer’s Blue Origin space launch
After criticizing Katy Perry for imitating his sister, Miley Cyrus, Trace Cyrus went on to slam her for experimenting with EDM in music. In his recent video clip shared on Instagram on April 18, 2025, Cyrus said:
'And then they just tried some EDM song and some s***, because EDM’s hot. Didn’t f***ing work!”

He then went on to comment on Perry’s recent visit to space through Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, stating that it was a failed attempt to revive her declining career and seek the public’s attention. He said:
“Now we’re gonna send your a** to space. Didn't f***ing work! It’s not working. It’s backfiring. Stop!”
Katy Perry made the headlines when she became a part of an 11-minute Blue Origin’s all-female mission called NS-31, which was reportedly funded by Jeff Bezos. She was accompanied by five other crew members on her flight to space which also included famous television personality Gayle King, reported USA Today.
However, her move was largely slammed by the netizens and celebrities as a publicity stunt and a marketing exercise for Jeff Bezos’ space tourism business. Fans mocked her dramatic gestures like kissing the ground upon landing and holding up a daisy in the capsule, calling them “cringeworthy” and “over-the-top.” They felt that it more promoted her career rather than celebrating female empowerment.
Celebrity critics such as Emily Ratajkowski, Olivia Wilde, and Amy Schumer questioned the sincerity of the mission and highlighted concerns about its environmental impact.
Trace Cyrus’ recent accusations against Perry signify that he finds such high-profile stunts as desperate attempts to gain relevance. According to a report in The Sun, he was born in Ashland, Kentucky, on February 24, 1989, to Leticia 'Tish' Cyrus and her first ex-husband, Baxter Neal Helson. He has a total of five siblings, including Miley Cyrus. He was adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus when he married Tish in 1993.
