Joel Thomas Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, was scheduled to perform at Coachella 2025 with ZHU under his alter ego name, Testpilot. However, his set, which was scheduled on April 18 at the Quasar Stage, was cut short. The DJ was reportedly seen intoxicated throughout his set, eventually falling behind the DJ booth. The set ended with festival organizers escorting the DJ off the stage.

He uploaded a post on April 19 with the caption,

"I dont remember a thing. But I don't think I had a cig? So... that's good I guess? Going back to bed. Wake me up around Thursday ish."

He further added in the comments,

"Probably my last coachella show."

The artist also explained the whole situation in another Instagram post, which featured his cat. The caption of the post read,

"Man, even my cat is disappointed in me. Tho, it could be argued that she always has been. sorry about last night. Lol. TO BE FAIR, I felt the first 3/4 was great! Huge shout out to @zhu for introducing me to whisky and carrying my dumb a*s till the bitter end. lemme quit smoking, do some fucken personal resetting here at home, find my spirit animal, work on some new music, and come back better. ;)"

Through the post, Deadmau5 apologized to fans in his usual honest and humorous way. Many fans showed support in the comments, saying they loved the set and thought it was amazing despite everything.

Before Deadmau5's Coachella performance with ZHU on April 18, the artist uploaded an Instagram post in which he wrote,

"Coming down with a little bug, sniffly / congested, bleh… (don’t worry I am 100% still going to rock out with Zhu tomorrow) was just thinking, I’m going to try to quit with the cigarettes starting today. I haven’t made a solid effort to quit in years. I’ve always wanted to, but my god, breaking a nicotine addiction is up there for me because I’ve always found it as a wonderful stress pacifier, but yeah. I think it’s time."

Through the post, Deadmau5 shared his honest and real feelings with his fans about his nicotine addiction. Just after that, he added another post with the caption,

"F*ck coachella today, I got s*it to do. But I'll see you tomorrow!"

The post hinted at possible gaming or streaming plans, with Deadmau5 showing off his new Razer Blade 16 gaming laptop.

While Deadmau5's Coachella weekend two set was cut short because of his drunken behavior, many fans loved the set and called it the funniest moment of Coachella 2025.
