As part of a prank staged by Benson Boone during the weekend 2 of the Coachella 2025, he brought a life-sized cutout of Queen's guitarist Brian May to the surprise of the audience. The singer channelled Freddie Mercury as he sang Bohemian Rhapsody.

This followed the crowd's lacklustre response during May's performance, for which Boone was a surprise guest during weekend 1 of the festival.

Before starting with his second Coachella performance, the 22-year-old singer told the crowd: “Just wait till you see who I bring up for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ today.” As he crooned the cover of the famous track, a cutout of the rock legend rose from beneath the stage.

As he concluded his set with the popular song Beautiful Things, he told the audience:

“I would like to let you all know, on Brian’s behalf, he would’ve loved to have been here, but he unfortunately had to fly out so, we came up with that idea and he sends his love.”

Previously, Boone expressed his disappointment with the crowd's muted response to Brian May, who had recently recovered from a minor stroke, through a TikTok video. Here is everything about it.

Benson Boone reacts to the response to Brian May's performance

Benson Boone recently took to TikTok to troll the Coachella crowd for their lack of enthusiasm for Brian May at this year’s festival.

After performing with Brian May during Coachella weekend 1, Boone posted videos highlighting how the audience gave May a muted reaction, which he found utterly shocking and disappointing, given his status.

In the video clip, Boone lip-syncs to the famous track, holding a banana. He captioned the video “Me trying to get the crowd at Coachella to understand what an absolute legend Brian May is and the cultural impact he has on music and THE WORLD.”

After singing, he points to the fruit to the crowd and pretends to be affected by their lack of reaction. Earlier, Queen fans blasted Coachella fans as “too young” and “undeserving” for their lukewarm reaction to Brian May.

According to a report in NME, Boone announced his forthcoming album called American Heart, which will be out on June 20.

A report in Consequence stated that, as far as Brian May is concerned, he responded positively and appreciatively to Boone's Coachella performance. In one of his Instagram posts, he addressed himself as his “official pal.” He shared an image with Boone and wrote:

“Do we look happy ? !!! Gonna treasure this moment on the plane with @bensonboone - a truly golden 22 year old prodigy. I'm proud and happy to say we are now officially pals. Bri.”

Another report by the same outlet stated that May suffered a minor stroke in mid-2024 when he temporarily lost the use of his left arm. His surprise appearance at Coachella this month with Benson Boone was his first major festival performance since the stroke.
