Who was Nipsey Hussle? Loved ones honor late rapper with the opening of Marathon Burger

Over the years, many artists have lost their life to gun violence, including rapper and entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle. Born as Ermias Joseph Asghedom, he grew up in the inner circles of Los Angeles. Nipsey rose to fame immensely with his studio album, Victory Lap, which also earned him a nomination for the Best Rap Album.

Apart from a budding career as a rapper, Nipsey was vocal about his entrepreneurial visions which led to the launch of Marathon Clothing. Still in his prime years, Nipsey Hussle lost his life in a fatal shooting outside his Clothing store on March 31, 2019.

After close to six years of his passing, his family and business partners have expanded his brand into a burger chain which honors and is inspired by Nipsey's values.

Loved ones celebrate Nipsey Hussle's legacy with the opening of Marathon Burger

Nipsey Hussle's family and business partners have continued to expand his brand, Marathon. From a pop store in 2024 to a dining restaurant in the heart of Los Angeles, Marathon Burger is open for business. The restaurant opened its doors to customers on March 1, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a grand offer of free meal to the first 100 customers.

Nipsey Hussle's brother, Samiel Asghedom sat for an exclusive interview with KCAL News about the restaurant's launch. He revealed he and his brother worked at a "restaurant" while growing up and dreamt about "running a restaurant."

Samiel revealed that all entrepreneurial expansions are based on Hussle's core value of "inspiration." He explained that Nipsey strove for his fans and community to understand that one can also come out of the worst circumstances.

In another interview with NBCLA, Samiel revealed they want to work on building Marathon as a "lifestyle brand" and tribute to his legacy. In clips shared by NBCLA, fans and friends could be seen supporting the new restaurant and remembering Nipsey. One customer noted that it isn't necessarily "about the burgers" rather about "culture building." He added that it's about "supporting black business."

Customers can choose from a range of burgers, including the special Marathon burger, which features Wagyu beef, and pair it with other starters and drinks. The store remains open from 7 AM to 3 AM.

Apart from the restaurant, Samiel has also revealed on Brown Bag Mornings that a "new project" between Nipsey and Bino Rideaux is expected to release soon. While there is lesser clarity if Nipsey's documentary will be released soon, his brother wishes to give life to Nipsey's dreams.

Nipsey Hussle's brother and partners continue to expand the Marathon brand. According to Samiel, the aim is "not to race but pace" and he wants Hussle's fans and community to be inspired. Fans can now visit the Marathon Burger restaurant at the Melrose Ave in the south of Los Angeles. Nipsey's brother and partners hope to further build the brand based on his vision and mission.
