According to a report in People Magazine, a search and rescue operation was immediately launched as per a spokesperson from the Royal Caribbean. He said that,

“Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort, is working with local authorities, and we are providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time. To respect the privacy of our guest’s family, we have no additional details to share.”

Burch’s family confirmed the news in a Facebook post, as reported by Variety. The statement read:

“It is with broken hearts that we share the sad news that Kimberly Burch has passed away. She was a beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her."

The statement added:

"We ask for prayers during this time for our family as we try to wrap our minds around this heartbreaking tragedy. We love and miss you Kimberly Burch!!”

Unraveling other details about the incident

A report in E! News stated that the Royal Caribbean '80s-themed cruise ship departed from Miami on March 2, and on the next day, Taime Downe called up Kimberly’s mother, Carnell Burch, to inform her about her demise.

While speaking to TMZ, Burch said that her daughter had been looking forward to the cruise and was very excited about the trip.

She had a heated argument with Downe before the incident. However, it remains unclear whether the incident was intentional or an accident. But Carnell told the outlet that she was confident and well aware of her daughter’s nature and that she would not purposefully hurt herself.

She also informed that Kimberly had been drinking on the cruise, which was something out of her character. She added that she was not going through any emotional issues. She further said that the family is trying their best to recover the body.

A report in E! News said that the incident happened about 20 miles from Freeport, Bahamas. It mentioned that the military branch had deployed a helicopter crew and other personnel to assist the Royal Bahamas Defense Force in its search and rescue operation.
