When did Yeontan pass away? BTS’ Taehyung’s late dog gets honored as ‘Most Beloved Pet in the World'

BTS's Taehyung, professionally known as V, first introduced his pomeranian Yeontan in 2017. He would frequently feature on BTS’ Taehyung’s social media, and soon became an Internet personality loved by many. On December 2, 2024, V posted on his Instagram story that his pet had passed away.

On April 11, Billboard posted a poll for its users to select their most "favorite" musician's pet. The poll was created in light of National Pet Day, celebrated on that date. With an overwhelming majority of votes, Yeontan took the award. At the time of publishing, he has secured 94.56% of the total votes in a list with the beloved pets of multiple musicians.

Taylor Swift's cats — Meredith, Olivia, and Benjamin — are behind Taehyung’s late dog, with 2.71% votes. Ariana Grande's many dogs and pig, Piggy Smallz, were third on the list. Pop Core posted the news on X and noted:

Taehyung’s late dog has won the hearts of many and has become Billboard's favourite celebrity pet. While the cause of Yeontan's passing is unknown, V and his team members appeared to share a very close bond with him. He wrote about his pet's passing on his Instagram story, noting:

“Actually, I'm posting this today because Yeontan recently went on a long trip with dogs. I thought a lot about how to tell the story, but I think it's right to tell all of you who have sent me so much love so far, so I decided to share the news."

He added:

"I would appreciate it if the ARMYs could remind Yeontan to be happy even in the stars. I wish you a warm end of the year where you can say I love you to the loved ones around you once more. I hope the army members will always be healthy until the day we meet again! I love you thank you"

On December 2, 2024, V posted a carousel of images remembering his pet and captioned the photo with his name in Korean. The first clip shows the close connection Taehyung shared with his pomeranian, who featured on the cover of V's debut album, Layover.

Fans took to Pop Core's post on X to express sorrow, with many expressing that they miss seeing Yeontan on social media. One user (@bathtub) noted:

"our little tannie will forever be missed and loved."

One user (@urdogs1notmydog) claimed that a BTS fan had reportedly named a star after V's late dog. They wrote:

"pretty ARMY bought him a star. rest well our brightest PUP-STAR."

It appears that Tannie had been a favorite of many fans. While the list features many pop stars, Taehyung’s late dog won the most votes. In other news, Taehyung is completing his compulsory military enlistment and is expected to be discharged on June 10. His team member, RM, is also expected to be discharged on the same day.
