Faces are coming back to the musical world in triumph! The legendary British rock band has been secretly working on their first new record since Ooh La La back in 1973, an era of more than five decades. This has been attested by a set of interviews between drummer Kenney Jones, where he divulged that the band has already recorded some 11 new tracks. But since Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood are too busy, the album's release has been postponed and is expected to be released in 2026 instead.
Faces' fans have been waiting all these years for this day to come. The group that originally emerged in 1969 was a rock 'n' roll rebellion legend. But as they dissolved in 1975, there was no guarantee that they would ever reunite to record new songs. The band is now set to release new material, with confirmation from Jones that the songs were recorded in North London RAK Studios.
While the official tracklist is yet to be known, most of the work they have been recording is of good quality and fit to feature. Special note should be taken of including top musician Jools Holland as guest artist on one of the new tracks.
Creation and emergence of Faces
The break-up of the Small Faces in 1969 created the Faces. When Humble Pie lead singer Steve Marriott joined the others — Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones — to join them, they together with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood formed the Faces. The new band was strong in the music scene, as Stewart's signature vocals and Wood's guitar playing added new momentum to the band's sound.
Faces remained among the best rock groups of the early '70s. The concerts and hits such as Stay With Me and Ooh La La enthralled music lovers everywhere in the world. Four albums were produced by the band before its breakup in 1975, leaving a legacy that has stood the test of time and continues to have an impact on rock music.
Faces: hiatus and reunions
Though the band broke up in 1975, they never lost their fame. Year by year, the rest of the band — Stewart, Wood, and Jones — got together sporadically for individual gigs. In 2015, the three came together on stage after a gap of 40 years at a charity concert, fueling rumors about new album releases. The band members came together again in 2020 on a surprise performance at the BRIT Awards, which caused more hype among the fans.
Those reunions being few and far between, it was only in 2025 that the band made it officially known that they were working on new music. That chemistry which made the Faces so unique still very much lingers, and their new album will be a nostalgia for the same.
What we know about the new album
The album, to be released in 2026, is the band's milestone history. The 11 tracks recorded at RAK Studios unleash the band's classic sound, combined with new musical terrain. Jones described that as the songs were being taken seriously, only the best of them would be included in the final album. The album contains a promise of fusion of rock, blues, and raw energy for which the Faces became legends.
One of the most exciting bits of information is that respected British musician Jools Holland has contributed his skills to the recording session, and a guest appears on a single track.
According to Consequence, Jools Holland said,
"Not all of them are going to be right [for the album], but most of them are good, I can’t see it coming out this year. But I can see it coming out next year. Everyone’s doing different things. We do little snippets [of recording] here and there. Then all of a sudden, The Stones are out [on tour] again, Rod’s out again.”
That will only leave everyone feverishly guessing about what the finished album will sound like when it is finally released.
The reunion of Faces after over 50 years is a milestone in rock music history. With Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, and Kenney Jones, the band members working on new songs, there is much that the fans can look forward to. Even though the album is not being released until 2026, the excitement is already on.
With the band still recording and working to get their songs perfect, the new album will prove to be a milestone in their already legendary career. Only waiting eagerly up to now, fans can be aware that even after all these years, the Faces have returned and are ready to rock again.
