Rapper MA$E, aka Mason Durell Betha, and Sean Diddy Combs have known each other since their Bad Boy Records days. On March 7, 2025, during an interview on the It is What It Is podcast, Mason revealed his plans to release his new album around the time of Combs’ trial, which will reportedly begin on May 5, 2025.
He did not share the name or title of his music project. When guest and footballer Maurice Clarett asked Mason when his music would come out, he replied:
“May 25th.”
He continued:
“The first day of the Diddy trial, we are dropping. You like that? See, you made me put that out there.”
The two artists had fall-outs previously. For instance, in 2009, he released the single Get It and Double Up. However, label issues disrupted his work, leading him to confront Diddy during a live radio interview.
According to HotNewHipHop, during the confrontation, MA$E presented documents he claimed would release him from his contract, which Combs reportedly signed, allowing him to collaborate with other artists. Despite this, it later emerged that Bad Boy Records still controlled the publishing rights to his music, limiting his career freedom.
During an episode of the MILLION DOLLAZ WORTH OF GAME podcast in 2022, Mason was asked what happened between him and the hip-hop mogul. MA$E expressed frustration with Combs, saying his contributions were undervalued and underpaid.
He believed he never received the respect or compensation he deserved and resented being held back while his peers moved on to become their bosses.
Diddy seemingly addressed MA$E’s claims in a 2022 interview
In the same podcast, MA$E shared that he was the one putting in the work in the studio while Combs was out partying. He claimed to have written the lyrics and played a major role in creating the music, including coming up with the concept and beat for Mo Money, Mo Problems, even though credit was later divided. He added:
“So me quitting after one album, it didn’t take long to figure it out like I am not going to be here with this. I don’t care who’s here because you are not paying me and you are not respecting me and that’s the real problem.”
In a 2022 interview with The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM, Diddy dismissed claims against him, calling them false attempts to damage his reputation. Addressing his history with MA$E, he stated they only worked on one album together and questioned how much he could realistically owe him.
He also accused Mason of misleading people after becoming a pastor and claimed that, in reality, he owed him $3 million, insisting he had proof to back it up.
Speaking to Billboard in 2023, Combs was asked if he and MA$E had resolved their issues over publishing rights. Diddy said things were fine between them. He described their relationship as that of brothers who sometimes argue but ultimately still care for each other.
