More details on Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's I Said I Love You First album
Selena discussed working with Benny Blanco for the album in an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music:
“It just felt like it was a little taste of what we are and how we made this together, and how much we loved it and how much we love each other. And it just felt like it was meant to be.”
Benny added that the album was reflective of Selena Gomez’s resilience about life in general and her vulnerability towards the person she loves:
"She’s had such a journey in life, both personally, medically, and so many other things. She makes you just believe it. She’s like, ‘I’m not scared of dying young or anyone,’ but she’s scared of the fact of losing someone that she’s finally created a bond with, where she feels comfortable enough. And somehow, by God’s grace, I happen to be that person. I have no idea why, but I am.”
The pop album features guest appearances from Gracie Abrams, J Balvin, GloRilla, Tainy, and Maria Zardoya. Clash ranked the album as 8/10, while Dakota West Foss of Sputnikmusic describes I Said I Love You First as Gomez’s “strongest collection of songs to date.”
