More details on Kendrick Lamar and DJ Mustard’s relationship explored as the latter joins the Grand National Tour
Mustard and Kendrick Lamar’s blockbuster hit Not Like Us topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts and earned the duo Grammy Awards. Lamar invited DJ Mustard to join him on the Super Bowl stage for a historic performance. Mustard, in an interview with Billboard, explained how the Not Like Us beat came to be and how Kendrick Lamar reacted to it:
“I started chopping it up, and I sped it up, and I did the drums… [Then] I sent him the beat and [later headed to] my manager’s birthday party,”
DJ Mustard added that after Kendrick listened to it, the rapper told him that “it was fire.”
The music producer also commended Lamar’s Not Like Us success and appreciated the rapper for giving opportunities to him and SZA :
"It feels great that Kendrick is really putting the West Coast back in the forefront. He’s giving people like me opportunities to shine; even though SZA’s not from Los Angeles, she’s adopted, she’s with us."
He added:
"And all the people that he put on his [GNX] album; he really cares about the West Coast. That’s the part that people don’t really see. For him to be that big, putting people like Lefty Gunplay and AzChike and Peysoh on tracks… he really gave people looks, and people don’t do that often. People don’t grab the youngest person that nobody knows.”
The Grand National tour begins on April 19, 2025, at the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis and ends on August 9, 2025, at SE 3Arena in Stockholm.
