Billboard has revived a longtime debate by naming Nicki Minaj as the greatest female rapper of all time, according to Staff Picks. The music magazine released a list of the 25 best female rappers of all time on April 7, 2025, and had the "Super Bass" hitmaker at its peak.
News of Billboard’s choice for best female rapper has been making the rounds on X, and while it has sparked a debate on who deserves the crown, Minaj’s fans have swarmed the comments to praise the rapper for her achievement.
@Chart Data shared the update on X, and a fan, @RyanXCX13, tweeted in response:
“THE QUEEN OF RAP FOR A REASON.”
Other fans, popularly called Barbz, showed solidarity for the rap icon:
“Nicki Minaj, thank u for resurrecting female rap, u revived it even before your debut album, turned a boys' game to a Queens' empire, made it lucrative, & flung doors open that benefited every female rapper after you. Your "PinkPrint" built thrones. You're so freaking IcoNik,” @YaGurlWoo praised.
“Mind you, she’s been in this spot for 15 years now, Best Female Rapper of All Time, Best selling rap tour of All Time, oh, she’s taking it!” @minajtrollz added.
“No one’s dragging her spot with her!! The queen fr,” @fadererah__ gushed.
Other fans replied to netizens who felt Minaj didn’t deserve to top the list:
“I mean, she deserves it. Say what you want, but she’s been there and done that,” @naabrown8 stated.
“Why everyone mad in the cs, I thought this was common knowledge,” @lennon_rn tweeted.
“Anyone who questions this is a hater. Idc what y'all think. Nicki Minaj may not be the blueprint, but she carried the female rap game for decades and made it recognized GLOBALLY. She reinvented and made records in spite of the hate train. A living LEGEND,” @gagasbabylon expressed.
More details explored as Billboard staff names Nicki Minaj as the number 1 female rapper of all time
Billboard describes Minaj as being a dominant force in the industry since she debuted more than a decade ago:
"'I’m number one; y’all go argue over top four,' Nicki Minaj boastfully flexed on Pink Friday 2. Who else did you expect to see at No. 1 on this list? Fifteen years after she left earth with her godly verse on Kanye West’s 'Monster' and delivered her seminal Pink Friday debut album, the First Lady of Young Money is still running laps around the competition."
The publication added that Minaj paved the way for most of the female rappers in the game now:
"The story of rap can’t be told without Minaj – and she’s got plenty of “sons” around the industry running through the doors she busted down."
Nicki Minaj became the first female rapper to achieve triple-digit Billboard Hot 100 hits in 2018, and her Pink Friday 2 World Tour became the highest-grossing tour for a female rapper in history.
