Right from her first TikTok video teasing fans about her newest song, Lorde is doing things differently for her new era. Before debuting her song in Washington Square Park in New York City, the Supercut singer communicated with her fans through a fan line text, asking them to
"Meet me in the park Tonight 7pm -xx," Lorde texted her fans in the chat.
However, after a few hours, she had to cancel the meet-up at the park because of the police and park rangers. She had to tell her fans to "disperse." But that did not stop the singer from debuting her song What Was That. She arrived at Washington Square Park after a while and stood on a platform and danced to her song while it played on the speakers.
