Tate McRae stopped by the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 25, 2025, where she discussed her newly released album So Close To What. She revealed how the album got leaked just weeks before its release and also discussed recording music with her boyfriend, The Kid Laroi, and how she got Sydney Sweeney for a voice cameo on one of the tracks in the album.

McRae wore a forest green sheer gown from Alaia, which featured rhinestones and ruched detailing. She rocked brown and blonde hair waves and told Fallon about how she got Sydney Sweeney into appearing on the track, Miss Possessive.

The singer revealed that Glen Powell, whom she did Pilates with, connected her to the Euphoria actress. She added:

“Sydney was such a legend. She just sent me 10 versions of this little voice memo thing, and it was like three days before the release, and she was the absolute best for doing it.”

The singer recounted how she and Sweeney met for the first time on the Jimmy Fallon Show and said hi to each other in passing. She added that she later ran into Glen Powell in Pilates class, and he told her that Sweeney was a fan of hers. He proved it by playing a voice memo where the actress revealed that she was obsessed with Tate McRae.

The singer also spoke about how she found out about her album leak. She told Fallon that a fan sent her the link to the unreleased project just 5 weeks before its official launch.

"I was sitting in the bathtub, and I get a DM from one of my fans, and they were just like, ‘Here’s the link to the whole album.' And it was like five weeks till the album was gonna drop.”

She recounted how she called her mom immediately and her therapist after. She revealed that she and her team handled the situation by adding more songs to the leaked project.

Tate McRae also talked about working with her boyfriend, rapper The Kid Laroi, on the track I Know Love. According to the singer, recording music with the Australian rapper was “nerve-racking” as they had never worked together.

“It was a little nerve-racking. The first time we ever sang in front of each other was actually at my MSG show last year... We were sitting in soundcheck like, ‘Are you going to sing first?’ We had never done it before so it was the same kind of situation in the studio.”
