Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco opened up about their relationship, from their first meetings to future family plans on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast. During the conversation uploaded on March 24, 2025, the Single Soon singer described the trust and immediate "sense of safety" she experienced with Benny.
During a segment on navigating a long-distance relationship, Benny reported that in the initial phase of their relationship, he had to "build trust" with Selena Gomez. He noted that when you enter a relationship, you also meet the other person's "baggage." Selena reflected on her past and described herself as "very reactive" and added,
"I think that's why I was alone for five years because I really needed to collect myself. I think in the past, that's why I say to him all the time, ten years ago, it's not that I wouldn't have wanted to be with you."

In their conversation with Jay Shetty, Selena Gomez revealed it is "rare to find" someone who sees one as they are, and Benny noted that they met at a "perfect time." Selena Gomez revealed Blanco helped her find "trust" in relationships again. She explained that when she would request him to "text" her, he would not get "combative." She added that he would rather say,
"'Yeah, I could totally do that.' And with that, day by day, I feel more and more open... and we're going to be separated again while I go shoot in New York, and yeah, I'm ready for it. I think it's doable, but it's not fun. Basically, he taught me to trust again."

In another part of the conversation, Selena Gomez talked about how "her character" becomes subject to people's opinions, including her "weight." She noted that it makes her "sad" but quickly added that she is not trying to be the "victim." She added,
"Women have it much worse in the industry. I think from my perspective it's pretty wild. It's not news to anyone that women have more intense feelings, about their appearance to what they're wearing. For me when I get prepared for an event, I just hope that I can take the picture and sit down."
The Emilia Perez actress has previously spoken about her Lupus diagnosis and its link to weight fluctuations. She has also revealed a mixed relationship she shares with social media. While Benny "doesn't care" about messages on social media, Gomez revealed she isn't always able to do it. She noted,
"I'm human and sometimes I read things. But most of the time I ignore these things. There are way to combat it. It's not like I hate social media ,I understand the power that it has. So it's tricky."
