Carl Cox has been an important part of Ultra Music Festival for more than two decades. As the festival prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary from March 28 to 30, 2025, in Miami’s Bayfront Park, Cox is set to introduce a new live experimental performance called "Evolution."
The artist, known for his long-standing presence in the electronic music scene, describes his connection to the festival simply,
“Put me in that arena, and that’s my office.”
This next show will not be like Carl Cox's typical DJing performance. Instead of splicing pre-recorded tracks together, he will engage in live music production, fiddling around with the sound in real time. The concert should demonstrate another aspect of his music without changing the level of energy that fans of Ultra equate him with.

Carl Cox has had an association with Ultra Music Festival lasting more than twenty years
Cox first took the stage at Ultra in 2001 and has been a staple of the festival ever since. Not only has he played great sets over the years, but he has also programmed his stage, RESISTANCE, which showcases underground house and techno talent.
He has been a regular at Ultra, which has made him one of the most familiar names attached to the festival. Ultra Music Festival itself has increased in size throughout this time, spreading beyond Miami to global venues.
Through it all, Carl Cox has been a mainstay, incorporating new trends into his performances while remaining faithful to his trademark sound. He mentioned,
“I’ve been playing it nearly every year since it existed. I wanted to have a year off, personally, I just thought to myself, every time you buy a ticket for Ultra, you’re gonna see Carl Cox. It’s a given. He’s on the lineup there somewhere, and that’s it.”
The 'Evolution' live show will provide a distinct experience
For the first time at Ultra, Carl Cox will deliver a live performance instead of a DJ set. "Evolution" will involve real-time music production with synthesizers, drum machines, and other production equipment and software. This method introduces an element of unpredictability to the show, as each performance will be different.
He said,
“So we’re not just playing techno music or house music or electronic music, we’re making it right in front of your very ears. That’s what’s really, really cool about it.”
Although Cox has tried hybrid sets in the past—combining live performances with pre-recorded tracks—this performance will feature live production alone. This, says Cox, is a progression in his life as he challenges creative limits even further.
The 'Carl Cox Invites' stage will host a range of artists
Part of the anniversary celebration of the festival is that Cox will also organize the inaugural Carl Cox Invites stage inside the RESISTANCE MegaStructure. This lineup includes famous underground electronic music artists like Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin, and Dubfire. The stage will host a variety of sounds within the house and techno genre.
Ultra Music Festival's 25th anniversary will have a variety of lineup
In addition to Carl Cox's new series, the festival features a range of performances by leading electronic music performers. Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Tiësto, Martin Garrix, and Hardwell are among the scheduled acts. Special collaborations like Deadmau5 with Pendulum and Anyma with Solomun are also scheduled.
While Ultra Music Festival commemorates 25 years, Carl Cox is still an integral component of the event. His live show, "Evolution," is his latest and signifies a change in how he does things, presenting the festival attendees with something new from his previous performances.
The Carl Cox Invites stage and the eclectic lineup add to the continued expansion of the festival. New performances and known entities are turning Ultra 2025 into an event with some old influences blended with new ones.
