The Weeknd released a trailer for a film to accompany his latest album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, on April 1, 2025, and it features actors Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The trailer makes use of dark imagery, The Weeknd’s solemn melody, and the actors’ dialogue to depict the musician’s descent into insomnia and the darker side of fame.
In the 2-minute snippet, Ortega plays the Canadian rapper’s love interest while Keoghan is his friend who looks out for him. The trailer ends on a cliffhanger as Ortega seemingly tries to set the rapper’s house on fire.

The musical, psychological thriller film is directed by Trey Edward Shultz and written by Shultz alongside Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) and Reza Fahim. Tesfaye and Rahim are also credited as producers alongside Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss.
The film depicts the dark side of fame as Tesfaye plays a fictional musician who battles with sleep deprivation and is on the edge of a mental breakdown. His close friend, played by Barry Keoghan, advises him to take things easy.
He meets a mysterious woman, played by Jenna Ortega, who is by his side as he descends into madness. The movie project marks Tesfaye’s feature film debut, having previously starred in the HBO series The Idol.
The Weeknd, alongside co-star Ortega, unveiled the upcoming movie at LionsGate CinemaCon on April 1, 2024. The singer performed Cry For Me and Open Hearts from the movie. Director Shultz described working with Tesfaye as “effortless” he also described their relationship as familial.
Jenna Ortega described the Hurry Up Tomorrow movie as soulful and "hard to describe":
"The movie is “hard to describe … I haven’t seen a movie quite like it. It’s very soulful. It feels more like an experience, and when you go into it with that mentality, it makes sense.”
The one-hundred-and-five-minute film is scheduled to launch on May 16, 2025.
