Katseye is the newest "global girl group" in the music world. The group was formed two years ago in 2023 under Hybe Corporation and Geffen Records. The girl group originated via a reality show known as Dream Academy. It has six members from ethnically different backgrounds: Sophia, Manon, Lara, Megan, Daniela, and Yoonchae.

The global girl group often communicates with their "eyekons" (Katseye fans) through Weverse. In a recent Weverse chat, Lara Rajagopalan, popularly referred to by her stage name Lara, just came out to her fans as bisexual. In the message, she wrote:

"I knew i was half fruitcake when i was like 8 so i really was wanting everybody. Honestly probably before 8. Isn’t “half fruitcake” such a good way to explain it without saying it?" - Lara wrote.

Eyekons were happy and accepting of Lara's coming-out message. One fan responded to the post, saying,

"“half fruitcake” is officially my new favorite way to say bi" - @debayo_xx commented.

How did netizens react to Lara from Katseye coming out as bisexual on Weverse?

When Pop Base posted the screenshot of Lara coming out as a "half-fruitcake" / bisexual, there were mixed responses in the comments section. Some were unfamiliar with who Lara from Katseye was, while Eyekons were open and accepting of Lara.

Have a look at some of the reactions below:

Not everyone understood what the term "half-fruitcake" meant. One of the users commented,

"Explain this in kpop terms" - @gsslsbsf asked.

The global girl group is considered a K-pop group despite the ethnically diverse group members. Since South Korea is a conservative country, the people are not very open to same sex marriage. However, K-pop idols are doing their best to be open and accepting. Based on this, one fan commented,

"this is actually so revolutionary for kpop and she’s paving the way for so many other kpop idols omg" - @positionsmafiaa wrote.

Supportive eyekons have also commented on the post, saying,

"lara we are so proud of you!!!!!" - @cinepopism exlaimed.
"The world is healing 'cause wym a Kpop idol opened up about it instead of being exposed by losers?" - @bigarms4me stated.
"This is so sweet and so real. Half fruitcake is my new favorite expression" - @Anvavxx commented.

While many are happy for the Katseye member, some are also concerned about her career.

"good for her. hate to say it's brave in 2025 but given the fact that katseye is kpop adjacent and promotes in Korea, it is. I hope this doesn't effect her career negatively because it shouldn't 🫶 " - @Ayumiwaifu expressed.
"I hope it didn't have a bad effect on her career🥲 " - @milkysinss01 added.

Despite their recent debut, Katseye has been growing in popularity globally. With their hit debut Touch going viral, the girls were mentioned in "12 Girl Groups to Watch in 2024" by Teen Vogue magazine. They are yet to release any new music in 2025, but fans are eagerly waiting to see what they come up with.
