The former drummer of Judas Priest, Les Binks, passed away at the age of 73. The news was confirmed by the band on April 14, 2025.

Les was mainly known for his short stint with the heavy metal band between 1977 and 1979. As reports suggest, he contributed significantly to shape the band's music during one of their most important transitions.

In a statement posted to social media, Judas Priest paid tribute to Les Binks, writing:

"MESSAGE FROM THE BAND RE LES BINKS: We are deeply saddened about the passing of Les and send our love to his family, friends, and fans. The acclaimed drumming he provided was first class - demonstrating his unique techniques, flair, style and precision - Thank you Les - your acclaim will live on....."

Les Binks' time with Judas Priest was brief. He performed on two studio albums and a beloved live release. He was later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band in 2022 when he joined the band for one final performance. It is worth noting that it was his first appearance with the group in over four decades.

About Les Binks

Born in August 1951 in Portadown, Northern Ireland, James Leslie Binks began his music career in the early 1970s.

He has played with multiple acts, such as Eric Burdon and War, and featured on Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover's 1974 album The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast. He also played in the pop band Fancy, which scored a couple of charting singles in the U.S., reports suggest.

Binks' path crossed with Judas Priest in 1977 when the band finished recording Sin After Sin. Binks was brought in to replace Simon Phillips. He performed for Stained Class and Killing Machine. The latter was retitled Hell Bent for Leather for the U.S. release. Both of these albums came out in 1978.

The live album Unleashed in the East followed in 1979. Binks was also reportedly involved in songwriting. He co-wrote Beyond the Realms of Death, a beloved track on the album Stained Class.
