In the wake of a controversial lawsuit against former NFL tight end and sports commentator Shannon Sharpe, radio host Charlamagne Tha God has publicly condemned not just the allegations but what he sees as a broader issue of aging celebrities pursuing significantly younger women.
The radio host said,
“You [53] years old, you should be laying with your wife and kids, taking your cholesterol medicine, minding your damn business.”
Shannon Sharpe, who is 56, is in the midst of a $50 million lawsuit which is brought forward by a former girlfriend who accuses him of s*xual assault during the time they were together. He has put out that it was a consensual relationship and that the suit is a way for her to better her financial situation.
As the legal teams get set for what is to be a long legal process play out, the focus has turned to Shannon Sharpe’s personal choices in which he decided to be in a relationship with 19-year-old Gabriella Zuniga.

Charlamagne challenges cultural norms as Shannon Sharpe defends reputation online
Charlamagne brought up the issue on his morning show, The Breakfast Club. He put forth questions of the issue’s morality which is at play and also brought to light what he thinks was Shannon Sharpe’s lack of foresight. He didn't jump into the ongoing legal case itself, instead, he zeroed in on what he sees as more of a cultural issue.
"We need discipline and stability. I ain't talking about just Shannon, I'm just talking about all of us in general. Men need discipline and security. Find you one woman and settle your a** down," the radio host said.
He further urged public figures to serve as examples of stability, suggesting that men in their fifties should be more grounded in their personal lives. While his comments were biting, mentioning cholesterol medication and family responsibilities, they resonated with many listeners who saw the statement as a plea for men to recognize the risks and responsibilities that come with fame and influence.
Shannon Sharpe has reportedly been turning to social media for defense, which reports say is that his accuser’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, is after him to paint a negative image. In a video statement, Sharpe said Buzbee was out for personal gain and reported a plan to put out doctored footage to damage his reputation.
He has also filed a lawsuit of his own, accusing Buzbee of extortion. In a statement, Buzbee wrote:
"A little history. Back in early February, our office contacted Mr. Sharpe on behalf of Jane Doe and broached the subject of a meeting."
"Multiple conversations took place. Ultimately a mediation occurred. Mr. Sharpe was represented by different lawyers in that mediation. That mediation process went on for more than six weeks, ultimately leading to Mr. Sharpe making an incredibly significant offer to settle. Ultimately Jane Doe refused the hefty sum offered by Sharpe and instead filed this case last night," he added.
As the legal and public relations battles intensify, the case continues to generate national headlines. While the truth of the allegations remains to be determined in court, Charlamagne’s pointed critique has sparked online conversations.
