The I Am Legend star, Will Smith, who returned to the world of rapping after almost 20 years, had to face disappointment as his recently launched brand new album, Based On A True Story, did not meet the expected sales numbers. Not only that, but the album failed to get a spot on the Billboard 200 list as well, the Tribune reported.
Smith, who was quite hopeful about his new album, previously shared in an interview that he reached out for advice to rap gods like Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar for his album. He discussed how he called Jay-Z and Lamar, asking them for some genuine suggestions regarding how he should approach the album. Now, it seems even after listening to advice from award-winning rappers like Lamar and Jay-Z, things unfortunately didn't work out for Smith.
Will's Based On A True Story was his comeback album, which sold just 268 copies in the United Kingdom in the first week. Smith's 2005 Lost & Found album, which was a commercial success, ranked sixth on the Billboard 200 list, whereas his new album couldn't even manage to get a spot on the list.
Undaunted by the unexpected sales number, the Men In Black actor has announced plans regarding two more music albums and his first headline tour across Europe and other cities in the United Kingdom. The tour is supposed to feature a bunch of his old tracks, including his latest ones, along with some of his fan favourites like Gettin' Jiggy Wit It and Miami.
Will Smith addresses the 2022 Oscars incident in his new album, Based On A True Story

Smith's 14-track album, Based On A True Story, also addressed the 2022 Oscar incident, when the 56-year-old actor slapped Chris Rock on stage for commenting on his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Not to mention, he was also banned from attending any of the Academy events for ten years. Songs like You Lookin' For Me? and Int. Barbershop — Day talks about the Oscar incident and acknowledges the cancel culture and public backlash that Smith faced.
However, despite facing several difficulties in his personal and professional life, Smith hasn't given up and is committed to rebuilding his rap music career. Based On A True Story also featured high-profile collaborations with artists like Teyana Taylor, Big Sean, and Jaden Smith, Smith's son. However, if you like Smith's new album, then you must check out some of his old tracks like Wild Wild West, Summertime, Just The Two Of Us, Gettin' Jiggy Wit It, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme Song.
