The celebrated hard rock/metal band Godsmack won't be the same without Shannon Larkin and Tony Rambola. The band has seen ups and downs over the years as members kept changing, except for the few permanent ones. However, fans of Godsmack were a little surprised to find out that Larkin and Rombola were no longer part of the band.
As per Larkin, he and Rombola left the band back in 2024. However, they announced quitting the band recently. People have been curious why they would quit the band after being a part of it for such a long time. Larkin, who was the drummer, replaced Tommy Stewart in 2002 and, since then, has been a part of the band. Not to mention, he was also the longest-serving drummer of Godsmack. Romobola joined the rock band in 1996, just after the band was formed.
The primary reason for Larkin and Rombola to quit the band was that they no longer wanted to tour. Age is another factor; moreover, at their current age, they just want to be home, as they have been touring for decades.
A post was shared on Godsmack's official Instagram handle regarding Tony Rombola and Shannon Larkin's retirement from the band. Check out the Instagram post below:
According to Blabbermouth, Shanon Larkin, in a recent video (which was deleted) shared on Facebook, acknowledged his absence from Godsmack's ongoing European tour and said:
"Well, there's been lots of speculation about (why Tony and I are not on the road). First of all, I just wanna thank everybody for the outpouring of texts, all my family and friends. I'm okay. Tony's okay. But we did quit the band last year, after lots of talking to Sully and Robbie. And they understood that we didn't wanna tour anymore — that's the reason — and we understood that they wanted to tour. And so we understood each other. And in the end, GODSMACK's out there touring and we are happily here living our lives."
Larkin continued by saying:
"Tony turned 60. I'm 58. Look, it's not a physical thing. We wanna be home with everything that we love. (It's been) 40 years — think of that; 40 years I've been touring. 28 years for Rombola. And we're getting a little older, so we decided to quit it. And that's it."
Shannon thanked the fans and expressed his love and respect for his former band members and the ones who replaced him and Rombola. He also urged the fans to attend the band's shows. Larkin further added:
"As Sully said at the very end, all good things must come to an end. So GODSMACK didn't come to an end — it's just a new chapter for them — and it's certainly a new chapter for Tony and I. And we're already making music, and everybody's happy. So be happy, people."
Following Larkin's video, Godsmack's representative informed HardDrive Radio that an official announcement would be made from the band's side regarding Rombola and Larkin's current status with the band.
Godsmack is currently on their 2025 European Tour, which kicked off on March 22 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Larkin has been replaced by Evanescence's drummer, Will Hunt, and Faster Pussycat's Sam Bam Koltun filled in for Rombola.
