Texas rapper Markies Deandre Conway, popularly known by his stage name Yella Beezy, has been indicted in connection with a capital murder charge. The rapper was indicted by a Dallas County grand jury on March 18, according to Fox 4.

Yella Beezy broke into the rap scene with his 2017 hit, That’s On Me, which peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 list the year it was released. The track also secured a position in Billboard’s year-end Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, which was headed by Drake.

According to Rolling Stone, Beezy got a break when he opened for superstars Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s On the Run II tour in 2018. The magazine stated that That’s On Me was an organic hit, securing a spot on local radio station playlists. Beezy spoke to Rolling Stone about how the track came into being, saying:

“It was just something I was playing with…I knew it went hard…everybody was jamming it. It grew in the streets, the st—p clubs.”

The rapper secured another spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with his 2019 track, Bacc At It Again. This time, he collaborated with Gucci Mane and Quavo. Beezy also worked with rapper Ty Dolla $ign on the single Ay Ya Ya Ya in 2019.

Another single by Beezy, Restroom Occupied, was released in collaboration with Chris Brown in 2019. The music video for the track also features a cameo appearance by comedian Michael Blackson.

That same year, the rapper revisited his roots in a documentary on his origins, Ain’t No Going Bacc: Yella Beezy Documentary. Beezy shared details of his difficult childhood in the documentary, including reliving the time when his father was shot. XXL, which premiered the film, quoted one of Beezy’s lines, where he says:

“I was turning 13 that October. I just remember we pulled up from like, the back way and my mama parked the car kind of where that orange little cone thing is right there and shit. She was like, 'Something happened to your daddy.’"

Details of Yella Beezy's murder indictment

Yella Beezy's indictment is in relation to the murder of another Texas-based rapper, Melvin Noble, known as Mo3. Mo3 was killed on November 11, 2020. The rapper’s murder took place on Interstate 35E, as per NBCDFW.

Videos of the harrowing incident, captured on traffic cameras, showed a masked gunman shooting at Noble, who was running for his life after escaping his car. The gunman was identified as Kewon Dontrell White, who was charged with murder a month later and is serving a nine-year sentence on firearm-related charges, as per Fox 4.

Beezy allegedly hired White to kill Noble, and the Dallas County grand jury has indicted Beezy on charges of orchestrating the killing “while remuneration was involved,” according to the report by NBCDFW.

Another individual, Devin Maurice Brown, was also involved in the killing of Noble. As per NBCDFW’s report, Brown was charged after weapons, drugs, and cash were found on him following his identification via surveillance records.

With the news of Yella Beezy’s indictment, it remains to be seen whether the rapper will be convicted.
