The iconic heavy metal band, Black Sabbath, is all set for its final live performance at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, on July 5. The announcement was made at the home of Aston Villa by Tony Iommi and Sharon Osbourne, the wife and manager of Ozzy Osbourne.
Earlier in February, Ozzy Osbourne took to his Instagram handle to make the announcement, where he mentioned that bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Bill Ward, and guitarist Tony Iommi would be performing live with him for the first time in twenty years.
Who's taking the stage at the Black Sabbath concert?
Ozzy Osbourne's official Instagram account announced new additions to the Back to the Beginning show on Monday, 17 February.
Jason Momoa will be hosting the event and Tom Morello will be serving as the music director. Other newly added acts include songwriter-producer Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer and bassist Dave Ellefson.
Other than these and the original legendary members of Black Sabbath, Tools, and Guns N’ Roses have also been added to the list.
Role of Ozzy Osbourne in the Balck Sabbath show
On the Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Morrison's program, OZZY Speaks, which airs on SiriusXM's Ozzy's Boneyard, Ozzy said:
''I’m not planning on doing a set with Black Sabbath but I am doing little bits and pieces with them. I am doing what I can, where I feel comfortable.”
Since December 31, 2018, which also happens to be the last date of his No More Tours trek, Ozzy hasn't done a full concert. Two months later, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's, which led to his health declining and the cancellation of many tours. However, he still participates in selective performances.
When Ozzy made the announcement earlier in February, he made a statement saying:
''It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born.''
He continued:
“How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
The Back to the Beginning lineup also features Lamb of God, Alice in Chains and Halestorm, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Gojira, and Mastodon.
All the proceeds from the concert will benefit Cure Parkinsons, Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Acorn Children's Hospice.
