British rockstar Rod Stewart’s son, Sean Stewart, is struggling to get his addiction under control. The 44-year-old checked into a luxurious rehab facility in Malibu on February 25.
Sean is the eldest son of Rod Stewart, who is set to perform at Glastonbury 2025. Born to Rod and his first wife, Alana, Sean is one of Rod’s eight children. Rod’s eldest daughter, Susannah, is 61 years old, while his youngest child, Aiden, is 14, according to Hello! Magazine.
Sean Stewart's professional and personal life
Sean Stewart is the founder of the clothing brand Dirty Weekend. However, the lifestyle and fashion brand did not last long, as per Daily Mail.
Rod Stewart's eldest son has appeared in multiple reality TV shows, including Sons of Hollywood, Celebrity Rehab, Celebrity Family Feud, and The Hills: New Beginnings. In 2020, US Weekly reported that The Hills star Audrina Patridge was dating Stewart, though they were reportedly not exclusive.
The relationship did not last long, as Stewart married Jody Weintraub (daughter of Jerry Weintraub) in 2023 in an impromptu Las Vegas ceremony. The story was first reported by People Magazine, which revealed that the couple’s Valentine's Day date led to a proposal, followed by a wedding at the Little Church of the West. Hello! Magazine later reported that upon their return to Los Angeles, the couple shared a celebratory dinner with Rod Stewart and Alana.
However, Stewart’s marital bliss was short-lived. The celebrity son and Weintraub split just a few months ago, according to Daily Mail.
Rod Stewart’s son's struggles with addiction
This isn’t the first time Sean Stewart has entered rehab. He has struggled with addiction since childhood. Though he has spoken openly about the pressures of being Rod Stewart's son, he has always remained close to his father, who recently performed at the FireAid Benefit Concert.
Daily Mail quoted Stewart admitting that he started drinking at the age of 13. He also consumed drugs such as c**aine and h**oin. The publication further noted that in 2001, Stewart spent 90 days in prison after attacking a 19-year-old stranger in a bar.
According to The Mirror, Stewart has had multiple stints in rehab. This time, his stay at the Malibu facility is expected to last 90 days.
In a 2015 interview with Daily Mail, Stewart opened up about the struggles that contributed to his addiction. He recalled the humiliations he endured as a child due to his ADHD and learning disabilities, stating:
“I have struggled with ADHD since I was a kid. I also struggled in school because I had a learning disability, dyslexia, and people called me Stupid Stewart”
In another interview, Stewart emotionally reflected on how his childhood struggles evolved into deeper issues in adulthood:
“Everybody has hurt and pain inside them, but some people take it out on hurting themselves. I dealt with it by drinking and doing other things. My pain started when I was bullied in high school. I was a skinny little kid, I was scrawny, I was picked on, beat up, made fun of. I have OCD.”
Recently, Sean Stewart was spotted posting pictures alongside Julia Stambler, actor Charlie Sheen’s ex-girlfriend. Hello! Magazine reported that the two are dating.
As Rod Stewart's son begins his stay in rehab, here’s hoping he finds the strength to overcome his struggles.
