Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. is an American rapper and singer who is more popularly referred to by his stage name, Nelly. Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. was one of the biggest rappers during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. He rose to fame when he joined Universal Records in 1999 and released his debut album in 2000. He has released eight studio albums so far and has acted in a few films and series.
Nelly was hosted on the Drink Champs podcast recently, where he made a remark about Diddy. N.O.R.E., the host asked the Ride Wit Me singer who he thought would win in a Verzuz battle, Diddy or Dupri. He replied that Diddy would get "m*rdered" by Jermaine Dupri in a Verzuz battle. He further explained that Dupri is known as the "Sniper."
P. Diddy and Jermaine Dupri are both American rappers and record producers. Fans have debated who is better for years now. For those not familiar with Verzuz, it is a show created by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. Two artists would be brought on stage to battle it out in 10 rounds, using the songs they have produced from their discography. This webcast series originated in 2020.
What did Nelly say about Diddy in the Drink Champs podcast?
During the podcast, Drink Champs host N.O.R.E. asked Nelly who he would pick between Timbaland and Jermaine Dupri (JD). It was a no-brainer choice when he chose JD. The Grillz singer continues to explain that JD is considered a sniper because of his music.
Nelly decided to bring up a hypothetical situation. He says,
"Respectfully, and outside of current situations, him (JD) and Puff do Verzuz, Puff is going to get m*rdered. Easy". Nelly states.
He continued by saying,
"Puff is smart... He knew he didn't want no part... Why you think he wanted to hold Verzuz in New York? JD can hold Verzuz anywhere. Puff only wanted to hold Verzuz in New York.
Nelly then lists some of JD's achievements, including the duo Kriss Kross, founded by JD. The duo was popular for wearing their clothes backward. N.O.R.E. admitted he had done in the past for "four days."
What did fans think of Nelly's opinions about a hypothetical battle between Jermaine Dupri and P. Diddy battling on Verzuz?
After The Art Of Dialogue (@ArtOfDialogue_) posted a clip of Nelly's statement from the Drink Champs podcast, hip-hop fans flocked to the comments to share their thoughts as well.
One fan commented,
"He not lyin tho. Ni**as super sleep on JD n I’m a Bad Boy fan musically. But that would b a cake walk for jd" - @william26303570 said.
Another user mentioned whom they want to see JD go against. They wrote,
"Facts though Jermaine Dupri catalog can go against Drake" - @theplayboyjo commented.
A P. Diddy fan wrote,
"M*rdered? Ion know about that. He must’ve forgot Diddy got heat too" - @scarfaceGary reminded.
While another user explained,
"Jermaine Dupri is undoubtedly a bigger and better producer with a larger catalogue than diddy and that’s a fact, diddy was a businessman who took credit for songs he didn’t really produce himself." - @JardaniJovonovv added.
Jermaine Dupri and P. Diddy had set a date for a Verzuz battle in September 2021. However, after some legal battles between the co-founders of Verzuz and the parent company Triller, they decided to drop out of the Verzuz battle and go for a "non-Verzuz" battle instead.
