Over the past year since the birth of their second child, Rihanna revealed that Pharrell Williams played a key role in inspiring her and A$AP Rocky when choosing their son’s name. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar on Saturday, the Diamonds hitmaker shared that Pharrell had influenced their decision even before the baby was born—when they initially thought they were expecting a girl.

She told,

“He gave us this name thinking it was going to be a girl because he had seen something online,”

she then added

“Pharrell is very deep. He’s not surface. He will never say anything and just leave it there with a full stop. He will have the entire history: the energy, the time, the month that it is.”

The name holds a special connection to Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, as Riot is the title of a song Pharrell and Rocky collaborated on in 2023. In the track, Rocky expresses his love for Rihanna. Coincidentally, the song was released just weeks before the birth of their son, Riot.

It was revealed to Entertainment Tonight by Rihanna that Riot's middle name is Rose, which comes from Rocky's love for flowers. The rapper even got grills with actual flowers.

In the interview with Harper's Baazar Rihanna talked about her son's characters. She spoke about her oldest son, RZA Athelston Mayers who is named after the renowned Wu-Tang Clan member. To which the rapper RZA (Robert Fitzgerald Diggs), referred to it as

"a great honor to know that there's another generation that's not even of my own household that feels the strength and the inspiration of that name."

He continued,

"RZA is only a name, it's a title. So it's an honor and I salute her and A$AP and their family. All the blessings in the world from me."

in an interview with CNN and wished the parents and their families well.

The Diamonds hitmaker said that

"RZA is just an empath."

She happily added more,

"He’s so magical. He loves music. He loves melody. He loves books. He loves water—bath time, swimming, pool, beach, anything.”

Riot who is currently 18 months old is renowned for his energetic demeanor.

Rihanna added,

“He’s just hilarious, When he wakes up, he starts to squeal and scream. Not in a crying way. He just wants to sing. He’s my alarm in the morning!”

Despite not announcing their plans for another kid, the couple joked at the prospect of naming their future child A$AP Joe in reference to Rocky's attorney, Joe Tacopina, after Rocky was found not guilty recently.

“I’m batting at 75 percent for a boy next time, so we’ll just keep our fingers crossed.”

The singer-songwriter said when discussing her aspirations for the future in an interview with E! News. She acknowledges that having another child would cause

“pure anxiety for one day,”

but she also said,

“I think I’ll just get over it the next.”

She also talked about the parenting style of Rocky,

"I'm annoyed because my sons sometimes just live for him more than they live for me. And I’m like, 'Did you know who cooked you? Do you know who pushed you out?' And they love him, but when I see it, oh, it’s the best."
