When did Moonbin die? Friends release tribute song for the late K-pop idol, ‘Memory of the Moon’

Moonbin's friends have released a tribute song for him, '꿈속의 문(Moon): Memory of the Moon.'

Several K-Pop stars joined forces with popular boy band Astro to release a song in honor of the late idol this Saturday, commemorating the second anniversary of his demise.

His bandmates, MJ, Jinjin, Cha Eunwoo and Sanha, and several of his friends in the industry got together to release the song. The track also features former Astro member Rocky, as well as the icon's younger sister, Moon Sua.

Moonbin, also a member of the boy band, was found dead on April 19, 2023. His body was found in his home in Seoul, and he was 25 years old.

Everything to know about the song released in Moonbin's honor:

Moon Sua, a Korean singer from the girl group Billie, released the cover song to honor her late brother. She is known for covering Lady Gaga's Always Remember Us This Way from her 2018 film, A Star Is Born.

Less than a month before his death, Moonbin and fellow Astro band member Sanha performed for their Diffusion Fan Con Tour in Manila on March 25, 2023.

Alongside the song, Moon Sua penned a letter to her brother, telling him, “I really miss you and love you.”

“How are you, brother? I sang a song for the first time while thinking of you this time. Isn't it touching? The song may not be perfect, but I hope you know my sincerity,” she wrote.She added, “While preparing, all sorts of thoughts came to mind. It was my first time singing to you, so I was more nervous and more careful. I guess I wanted to be good to you that much. I wanted to convey my feelings like this.”

The statement continues:

“But, brother, am I really working hard? There are days when I endure, days when I laugh, and days when I’m just a mess. But the more I try to live, the more courageous I feel. I thought that when oppa sees me, he’d say ‘Okay~ you did well.’” Moon Sua said, “I thought a lot about the song, but in the end, I liked this song ‘I’ll always remember us like this.’ Because those words sound like us. Even the days when I was with oppa but couldn’t express myself because I was shy. I’ll remember each and every one of those things just as they were.”

The Astro band wrote the lyrics of the song, and according to India Times, it means:

"Letters of Moonbin's friends to Moonbin, who is waiting when the moon doors open." The track goes, "When the moon door opens, we'll be standing there. We'll be there. Dreaming of the day we meet again. We will not forget you and wait for you."
