The American rock band, Brand New, recently made headlines after the news of its reunion went viral online. The four-member music group has been on a hiatus since 2017. The founding members of the band are Vincent Accardi, Garrett Tierney, Brian Lane, and lead singer Jesse Lacey.

As per Billboards’ report, Brand New split in 2017 after a series of alleged sexual misconduct claims against their vocalist, Jesse Lacey, resulting in the cancellation of all remaining tour dates and a significant withdrawal from public visibility; the allegations predominantly concerned inappropriate conduct with minors.

What was Brand New’s response to the allegations against their frontman Jesse Lacey?

Following the charges, Jesse Lacey issued a broad statement addressing the extremely serious accusations. He apologized to his fans for his incorrect actions in a statement. He released the statement stating:

“I was selfish, narcissistic, and insensitive in my past, and there are a number of people who have had to shoulder the burden of my failures. I apologize for the hurt I have caused, and hope to be able to take the correct actions to earn forgiveness and trust.”

He went on to add how he cheated and mistreated people. He also mentioned how he has been disrespectful to women through his actions.

"I am sorry for how I have hurt people, mistreated them, lied, and cheated. I am sorry for ignoring the way in which my position, status, and power as a member of a band affected the way people viewed me or their approach to their interactions with me. And I am sorry for how often I have not afforded women the respect, support, or honesty that they deserved," Jesse Lacey said.

Even though Brand New broke up in 2017, it was a very successful year for the band overall. They surprised fans by releasing their first full-length in eight years, Science Fiction, and it went straight to the top of the U.S. Billboard Top 200 album charts, marking their first #1 album.

Science Fiction was the first independently released album to reach #1 on Billboard's Top 200 since 2016's Blonde by Frank Ocean. Brand New began a fall tour of the United States after Science Fiction was released.

A few weeks after their tour, two women reportedly claimed that Lacey sexually abused and solicited obscene photos from minors. Following the accusations, the group cancelled their next concerts and eventually disbanded.

More details about the group’s reunion

Reunion dates for Brand New are set for March 26, 28, and 29 as of this writing. The band has been tight-lipped about their remaining plans for the ongoing year, with the exception of these concerts.

Earlier, in December 2024, the quartet conducted a secret reunion concert in Nashville with a stringent no-phones or camera prohibition.

At the end of March, Brand New will perform in Dallas, Newport, and Nashville, according to their official website. Here's a rundown of the group's show dates and locations:

  • 26 – Dallas, TX, Bomb Factory
  • 28 – Newport, KY, Megacorp Pavilion
  • 29 – Nashville, TN, The Pinnacle

Recently, Jesse Lacey did a solo acoustic fundraiser event in Los Angeles on January 31, 2025, benefiting the California Fire Foundation.

Brand New's 2025 and beyond gigs will likely be joyous reunion shows. Support from their fans will further reaffirm their position going forward.
