Jack Black returned to Saturday Night Live on April 5, 2025. In a pre-recorded sketch titled Goth Kid on Vacation, the actor-comedian performed a parody of My Chemical Romance's (MCR) beloved 2006 track Welcome to the Black Parade.
The artist was dressed in full goth regalia. Backed by a reggae beat, Jack Black's parody performance created waves across social media platforms. The three-minute segment featured early 2000s emo culture, family vacations, and reggae music in a musical comedy. It depicted the discomfort of being a gloomy teenager forced into sunny family getaways, Billboard reports.
The original MCR track Welcome to the Black Parade was a hit emo anthem that peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007. The band's frontman is Gerard Way.

People were quick to gather in the comment section of the YouTube video as they shared their reactions to the sketch and Jack Black's performance. Below are some of them had to remark:
"This was SO GOOD. Jack Black as Gerard Way singing Black Parade was the most perfect cherry on top of this and really made the whole sketch! Also Michael should really consider getting that haircut irl...", lauded a fan.
"I am so grateful I lived long enough to see my favourite sketch comedian of all time, Kenan Thompson, and Jack Black collab on parody of my favourite band of all time. As a Black-African emo-goth kid in my teens and an Elder Emo now, I screamed at the The Black Parade reference. Goosebumps! It's still my anthem, and Jack Black giving me 2000s Gerard Way/Tenacious D energy is something I didn't know I needed. The Black Parade will CARRY OOON~~~ Also, the goth kid is the gender-bending boy I drew black hearts in my school books over", penned another.
"What cracks me up the most about this sketch is the accuracy of the Goth outfit during the time Welcome To The Black Parade came out. I literally dressed like Michael Longfellow's Character when I was 15 in 2005. I'm impressed that you got this grown man to wear Tripp NYCs. The part at 0:38 made me laugh so hard because that's what happens when you wear Tripps no pun intended you literally get caught on stuff", noted a third.
"This was prefect role for Michael long fellow and the transition into black parade was perfect", shared a fourth.
"WELCOME TO THE JACK BLACK PARADE, WOOOOO", hyped as fifth.
Jack Black is one-half of the comedic rock duo Tenacious D. He previously hosted SNL in 2002, 2003, and 2005. His last appearance on SNL aligned with the original release of Welcome to the Black Parade.
