Tate McRae thrilled fans on Saturday Night Live (SNL), in the March 1, 2025, edition, performing two tracks from her latest album, So Close to What.

In her second appearance on the show, the Canadian pop artist delivered a super high energy performance of Sports Car and Dear God, leaving fans buzzing with excitement.

Tate McRae started her performance with Sports Car and she put a lot of energy into the song. She collaborated and co-wrote the song with Julia Michaels, Ryan Tedder and Grant Boutin. The track captures the rush of love and desire. In the song, the thrill of being in love is compared with speeding down the highway in a sleek sportscar.

According to Rolling Stone, McRae said in a Vogue interview:

"I wrote it with Julia Michaels, Ryan Tedder, and Grant [Boutin] and we wanted to kind of capture the adrenaline of love, s*x, and the excitement of it all. I felt like a sports car reminded me of that feeling of love, and like you are right in the middle of it. We referenced the Ying Yang twins with the whisper chorus and it ended up being really fun."

Tate McRae also took inspiration from the Ying Yang Twins, in a bid to add an extra edge to her performance.

Her fans reacted with excitement and appreciation. An X user wrote:

oh tate mcrae you didn’t have to serve SO HARD on snl, i’m on the floor.

Next, came her performance on Dear God. The themes of this song are raw emotion, love and introspection. Many fans on the show seemed almost in tears as Tate McRae performed with passion.
