Dua Lipa surprised her audience in Auckland, New Zealand, as she performed a cover of Lorde's beloved track, Royals, during her Radical Optimism Tour. The tribute to arguably one of New Zealand's most significant pop sensations was quick to become a highlight of the show.
However, this is not the first time Dua Lipa has honored local artists during her tour. Throughout her Oceania leg, she has covered songs from Australian and New Zealand musicians. It included Kylie Minogue, AC/DC, Tame Impala, and Vance Joy. Performing Royals in Lorde's home country is another addition to it.
Royals was released in 2013. During the concert at Auckland's Spark Arena, as Dua Lipa sang the opening lines, the crowd recognized the song and joined in.

Lorde's Royals was quick to become a beloved track when it debuted over a decade ago. It was released in 2013. The song reportedly spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was later featured on her debut album, Pure Heroine.
However, Lorde has remained relatively low-profile in recent years, reports suggest. Her last album was Solar Power. It came out in 2021, and she has since hinted at working on new material.
Dua Lipa's decision to cover Royals aligns with a trend she has followed during her Radical Optimism Tour. Throughout the tour's Oceania leg, she performed songs from local artists.
