Plies recently made headlines after dismissing his lawsuit against renowned rappers, including Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Soulja Boy, and GloRilla. The rapper sued them last year following the release of the remix version of their track, Wanna Be, which came out on May 31, 2024.

As claimed in the rapper’s lawsuit, Wanna Be included an uncleared sample of his track titled Me & My Goons.

After months of filing lawsuit, the Shawty rapper dropped all the charges against the artists ‘without any prejudice.’ This means that the artist can still refile the case in the future.

Plies filed lawsuit against Megan Thee, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy in November 2024

The 100 Years singer filed his initial copyright lawsuit back in November 2024. The legal action was originally taken against the remixed version of Wanna Be.

“[Wanna Be] incorporates substantial elements of the copyrighted material underlying ‘Me & My Goons,’ without authorization from plaintiffs.” Lawsuit stated.

In May 2024, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B worked jointly on a version of Wanna Be that was remixed. Wanna Be sampled Soulja Boy's Pretty Boy Swag and Project Pat's Don't Save Her.

Aaron J. Thornton, who represented Plies, provided an explanation for the artist’s choice to file a lawsuit. He said that the rapper was not targeting them collectively:

"This lawsuit isn't a strategically timed attack against Black women," Thornton wrote in a statement at the time.”

Earlier in November 2024, the rapper’s lawyer made it clear that the rapper had nothing against female rap artists. Further, the lawyer reaffirmed his client’s stand in favor of Black women after some people pointed out that Plies was targeting Black women with his lawsuit. The lawyer went on to add that the lawsuit was primarily targeted at Universal Music Group.

"Plies has said a lot of meaningful and important things in support of Black women. This is a lawsuit where the first name up who has the actual pockets here is Universal Music Group. My communication is directed to the record labels, the people who actually own the music. The artists are wonderful artists This isn't an attack on any of these artists."
