Lorde is proving haters wrong with her latest track, What Was That.

The songstress’ latest track becomes her first song in 11 years, since she released Royals, to dominate the US Spotify chart. The track itself comes four years after she dropped Solar Power, and explores personal upheaval and sonic rebirth.

It was co-written by Jim-E Stack and co-produced by Stack and Dan Nigro, the latter of whom is known for his work with Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan.

Fans have since begun flocking to X to cheer Lorde on, such as this one user who penned:

"Oh it’s her smashing era again"

The comments didn't end there:

"Oh Lorde, the timeless hitmaker that you are!" one fan exclaimed.
"Oh lorde remove the e and become lord because thats what you are," someone else jokingly suggested.
"yessss that’s mother claiming back her throne," another cheered on.
"Mother is backkkk," a fourth user penned.

Here's how the rest of X is reacting:

"Congrats to Lorde! "What Was I Made For?" becoming her first #1 hit on US Spotify in over 11 years is a remarkable achievement, showcasing her enduring talent and appeal," someone chimed in.
"The song isn't even that good, are we serious rn," another penned.
"sis reheated her nachos and reclocked the gag chile," one more quipped in Gen-Z lingo.
"SHES COMING FOR HER SPOT AGAIN," yet another exclaimed.

The Royals singer also dropped the music video to her track What Was That, which features her walking and riding a bicycle around New York City. She also took to Washington Square Park for a surprise performance just this Tuesday, after she texted droves of her fans to come meet her there.

“Meet me in the park Tonight 7pm -xx," she texted her fans.

However, things took a sharp turn when cops showed up and cleared the area, noting that she needed permission to hold a performance. She then took to her Instagram Story to pen:

“OMG @thepark the cops are shutting us down. I am truly Amazed by how many of you showed up !!!” it read, in part. “But they’re telling me you gotta disperse … I’m so sorry.”

She eventually came back two hours later but chose to dance and interact with fans instead. Footage of the same was captured and embedded into the music video of What Was That.

The singer dropped Solar Power back in 2021, though she has been making headlines as of late, mainly due to her collaboration on Girl, So Confusing, which sees the two work out some mishaps in the song’s lyrics. Lorde also performed the track alongside the singer during the first weekend of Coachella earlier this month, as well as at New York’s Madison Square Garden last fall, Variety has reported.
