Lizzo is calling out trolls for slamming her latest single Still Bad.

In a series of tweets on X, the singer called out a troll who referred to the music video of her latest single as a "brand of poptimism that doesn't work for [them] post covid and in second term trump america," asserting that this opinion is nothing but a "lazy take."

"I think seeing and hearing a black woman make real music with radical joy triggers miserable people… but I follow in the footsteps of Janet, of Funkadelic, of Earth Wind and Fire… nobody’s doing it like me for Us. And I stand on that," she penned on X.

In a series of tweets, the About Damn Time songstress said:

"Saying my brand of “poptimism” doesn’t work in a “post Covid world” is a lazy take.. As if I didn’t release ‘about damn time’ post pandemic..," she penned in her first tweet.
"As if I didn’t write ‘about damn time’ to be a post lockdown anthem to inspire us to get outside and together again.. and was successful at it btw ;)," she added.
"Same people saying my music is “too optimistic” would’ve been real mad in the 60s at James Brown and Motown," she went on. "

In the following few tweets, Lizzo added:

"‘Still Bad’ is a breakup song with the world. It literally starts with me saying “I’m bouta throw my phone away” it’s a call to action for the negativity we experience on our phones and how we need to disengage and recenter. The girls that get it, get it."
She went on, "In the music video I’m literally taking my power back from the “birds” (tweets) that tried to keep me down with negativity…"

In her subsequent tweets, she noted, "Imagine listening to “say it loud I’m black and I’m proud” and saying it’s too optimistic," adding, "imagine listening to “hey yah” and saying it’s too poppy… what André say? Yall don’t wanna listen ya just wanna hate."

Lizzo also noted that "Aretha & Whitney got backlash for being “too pop” and they kept going," adding that she will, too. In yet another tweet, she asserted that she is "out here reclaiming rock n roll for US…"

The singer recently made headlines when she revealed that she came out of a "dark depression" after being accused of harassment by three individuals who worked with her as dancers. During her set in Los Angeles, the Grammy-winning singer told the audience that she went through a stint where she "didn't want to live any more."

Speaking at LA's The Wiltern on Wednesday, Lizzo revealed that a stranger had given her a "life-saving moment" by giving her a warm embrace and telling her they loved her.

"Then it was 10 people, then 100... then 1,000... then it was 10,000 people showering me with love and support - this is the kind of love you can only get in real life," she said, as seen in a video circulating on TikTok.

She also called on others battling depression to "reach out", adding: " I say it because it's so hard to do."

Lizzo will hit the road for shows in New York and Minneapolis later this month.
