English artist Yungblud, also known as Dominic Harrison, is ready for a fresh start. After kicking off his career in an unforeseeably successful fashion, the 27 year old rocker is looking to redefine himself after experiencing the pitfalls of fame on a first hand basis.
Part of this new era for Dominic revolves around learning to love himself. Harrison, who once had such intense body dysmorphia that he developed an eating disorder, has spent the last two years with a boxing coach to retool his physique to that end.
"Maybe the shirt-off era is a comeback to all the comments I've had. I’m claiming a freedom and a sexiness and a liberation."
This could insinuate that Yungblud is welcoming the present with a positive outlook, a seemingly amazing development for himself, his family, and his fans.
Yungblud drops Lovesick Lullaby
Fresh off the release of Hello Heaven, Hello, a 9-minute rock power ballad, Yungblud has dropped another anthem. Lovesick Lullaby hit DSPs on April 25 and is the singer’s ode to all of the things that connect him to his British roots. When speaking on the inspiration to write it, Dominic was certainly clear-minded about his motivations.
“Making this song was a f*cking party and you can hear that on the recording… [I tried to] let my subconscious do a lot of the talking and then make sense of my words the following afternoon in a kitchen, hungover, eating fish and chips with a cup of tea… I’ve been on a journey trying to find meaning in different places all over the world, for which I am forever grateful, but it felt as though my feet left the ground a little too much and I had to bring myself back… to British music, to British art and culture.”
The official video for the track will also drop later in the day. Charlie Sarsfield serves as the director as we see Dom celebrating all things British, from pints of beer at the pub to other culturally embedded British iconography like the unforgettable Burberry check in archive beige, to the comfort and style of the Mini Cooper hatchback. The Doncaster singer-songwriter debuted the song during an intimate gig at London’s Scala last month.
In December 2024, Yungblud revealed in an interview with NME that he was working on a double album. In Dominic’s words,
“The new album centres around the idea of self-love and self-reclamation that allows people to feel seen, and emit this light. You can be seen for who you truly are, no matter where you’re from or what you believe… That’s what I needed to write an album about.”
It’s unclear if “Hello Heaven, Hello” and “Lovesick Lullaby” will appear on the album or should merely be regarded as new singles being released for his fans while the album is being finished.
