More on Lizzo and her 'Love in Real Life' single

Lizzo's real name is Melissa Jefferson. She first hinted at the song earlier this month when she officially bid farewell to her previous album 'Special'. In an Instagram post, she opened up about how the album helped her reconnect with audiences after the challenges of 2020 and 2021.

'Special' reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and featured About Damn Time, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and won Record of the Year at the 2023 Grammys.

Her Instagram post about 'Special' was captioned:

"It’s the end of a very Special era. This album was my strut back into society after a hard 2020 & 2021. I wanted to help people turn up the music, turn down the lights and get a feeling they’ll be alright. I wanted to remind people of how they may be broken but still perfect in their own way. 12 songs, 68 shows, 14 countries, 3 continents and nearly a million voices later we saw our specialness. We got through it together."

She continued:

"I’m proud of the accolades, the Grammys the Emmys the Platinum plaque… but I’m most proud of the Legacy I’m leaving this world— lyrics that uplift you, music w real instruments, a reminder to dance and that it’s okay to cry… and high vibrations! I thank God every day that this is my job, and I don’t take it lightly. Thank YOU, listener, lover, learner, lizzbian. Xoxo"

The release of 'Love in Real Life' comes after a period of controversy for Lizzo. In 2023, the singer faced legal challenges when former employees accused her of workplace misconduct.

She denied the allegations. In December 2024, a judge removed her from the case.
