Lana Del Rey takes to Instagram to break down the meaning behind her new song Bluebird

The deeper meaning behind Lana Del Rey’s usually coded lyrics is always up for debate online, with social media users searching for it behind her carefully selected words. With the release of her new single Bluebird, Lana decided to get ahead of the chatter and speak openly about what the song means to her via an Instagram post from her official account.

The 39-year-old singer said the basis for her country-inspired record was the notion of self-healing in times of uncertainty, and that she happened to improvise the melody when a bird flew into her window during a particularly self-reflective moment:

"I had been seeing someone for a very long time and we hadn't seen each other for a while, and he called and he asked me if I wanted to go for a walk, and I was kind of excited, but I didn't think it was a very good idea."

The Summertime Sadness singer continued:

"And I said yes, and I started getting dressed, and all of a sudden a bird smacked into the double pane window doors of my bedroom, and I was shocked. I opened the little door and I saw this little, I think it was like a little sparrow, right there. And I just was so emotional."

Lana Del Rey’s Bluebird explained

When speaking on the essence of her new single, the multi Grammy Award-winning singer of Blue Jeans elaborated on her initial thoughts:

"Because, when you just know that something is meant for you, sometimes I feel like nature has its own way of communicating with you. And I remember, just right before I could even think, I just sat there, and I just sang 'little bird fly away' for both of us. I was just kind of tearing up for myself and for the bird."

Despite the trying circumstances, the bird managed to eventually take flight and Lana took this as a sign:

"I did end up going on that walk. And I didn't really like where the walk led to–more years of confusion. That is not the first time that I've had something happen where a bird has been a sign for me."

Bluebird is the first single off Lana’s upcoming album, which was originally supposed to be titled Lasso. However, as Lana attempts to deviate slightly from her original wish of making a country album through and through, she has mentioned that the album’s title would also be subject to change.

The iconic Del Rey also recently teased a video for Bluebird via Instagram. With that, the anticipation continues to mount for her new album, which fans hope will drop as scheduled with no delays.
