Kendrick Lamar and SZA show no signs of slowing down, as the pair’s Luther enters its seventh total and consecutive week of dominating the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The GNX collab hit is now Lamar’s sixth No. 1 and SZA’s third (whose real name is Solána). The track marks both artists’ longest reign on the music chart. A tribute to the late R&B legend Luther Vandross, the track of the same name samples his voice.
According to Billboard, the track is now the “longest Hot 100 command for a rap hit” in over four years, with the last one being 24kGoldn’s Mood, featuring iann dior, which dominated the chart for eight weeks back in 2021. Per the outlet, the longest—and only other—domination for a rap hit in this decade is Roddy Ricch’s The Box in 2020, which held a No. 1 spot for 11 weeks.
Kendrick Lamar and SZA hit the road soon, here's everything you need to know before then:
According to Billboard, Luther now clashes with Jack Harlow’s Lovin on Me (2023–24), while K.Dot’s rival, Drake, is making headway of his own. The rapper’s NOKIA has climbed up to the third spot on this week’s Hot 100 following the release of its music video.
As for the GNX album, it has now been certified 2× platinum by the RIAA, having recently sold well over 2 million album-equivalent units. It now becomes the best-selling album in the nation in terms of total units sold. The rapper’s other hits like hey now, squabble up, and peekaboo continue to trend on social media as well.
Notably, Lamar is also going head-to-head with Taylor Swift and Tyler, The Creator on the Top Album Sales chart, with all three artists filling three spots apiece. Swift’s Folklore, The Tortured Poets Department, and 1989 (Taylor’s Version)are all on the chart.
Moreover, Kendrick Lamar and SZA fans will soon get to witness a live performance of these tracks, as the duo will be hitting the road for their Grand National stadium tour this month. The tour will feature an opening set from Mustard and will kick off in less than two weeks in Minneapolis.
The pair will deliver performances in the United States and Canada between April and June, and by July and August, they will fly out to Europe for international performances.
For her part, SZA recently announced that a collaboration between her and Chappell Roan may be forthcoming, though details surrounding the same currently remain unclear.
