Kpop group JUST B's Bain comes out during the world tour, making history.
Bain from the K-pop group JUST B came out in the US during a concert during his Just Odd World Tour. The boy band was performing at the Vermont Hollywood Hall in Los Angeles during their tour, which started in March from Japan, when the idol decided to live his truth.
During the concert, he announced that he is gay and even gave a shout-out to his inspiration, Lady Gaga. The 23-year-old stated,
"Before I start the next song, tonight I want to share something with you guys. I’m f***ing proud to be part of the LGBT community."
He further said, "Shoutout to my queen Lady Gaga for showing me that being yourself is beautiful. To everyone out there who is part of the LGBTQ+ or still figuring it out, this is for you guys." and continued, referring to her iconic empowering song. "And also, this is for everyone. You’re seen, you’re loved, and you are born this way."
The declaration was quite a rare event given the fact that K-pop is a strictly guarded industry, especially when it comes to details about the idols' personal lives and relationships. Bain, whose real name is Song Byeong-Hee, is one of the six members of K-pop group Just B who debuted in June 2021.
Fans react to Bain's coming out
The internet has been nothing but supportive of the young singer in his new journey, which comes especially difficult given South Korea's reservations with the LGBTQ community.
One person commented about the state of the industry and Bain's bravery,"been in kpop long enough to see all kinds of queerbaiting/idols faking attraction just to pull in fans and y’all eat it up every time. I get that the industry’s HELLA HOMOPHOBIC and forces them to hide, but now we finally have a real openly gay idol. So Y'ALL needs 2 support him"
Another commented about Lady Gaga's support,"@ladygaga girl you're constantly changing the industry for the better, even the kpop industry"
"So so proud of you Bain. Live your life full of love and happiness. Love every second 😘😘 Love you!", one fan spoke in his support.
"I support Bain and am rooting so hard for him 🥰 I hope he feels surrounded by love and kindness and acceptance", another supported the sentiment.
One person also said,"i may not know him but i’m so proud of him, he’s so brave for that! i might check the group out!!!"
The JUST B singer is just part of the very small group of the Kpop community that have come out and shown solidarity with the LGBTQ. Recently, Lara Raj from the Kpop group KATSEYE also came out through the global fan community Weverse. She stated,
“I knew I was half a fruitcake when I was like eight, so I really was wanting everybody. Honestly probably before eight. Isn’t half a fruitcake such a good way to explain it without saying it?” using the previously derogatory term.
