Chappell Roan is not leaving pop music behind. With the release of her new single, 'The Giver', around the corner, the singer-songwriter has assured fans that this country-inspired track is an artistic detour and not a permanent shift.

Chappell Roan is loved for her 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She was quick to become a known name in the global pop music scene.

However, when she started teasing The Giver, a track with country influences, multiple fans speculated that she might be transitioning to a new genre, reports claim. Addressing these speculations, Chappell made it clear in an upcoming Apple Music Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen, with E! News that her upcoming album will be a pop one.

Per Billboard, Chappell Roan stated in the interview:

"I wanted to write a country song because I just thought it would be funny. It is campy and fun. I’m from southwest Missouri. [I] grew up on Christian and country, and then found ‘Alejandro’ by Lady Gaga and I was like, ‘I think I like this, too.’ So, I have kept country in my heart. And it’s so incredibly nostalgic to drive in West Hollywood and have Jason Aldean [playing] or Alan Jackson’s ‘Chattahoochee.’"

She also added,

"I was like, ‘I want to feel that way on stage. I want to feel that.’ Because that’s how I write. I’m like, ‘How do I want to walk around on stage and sing?’ And I was like, ‘I want to write that song, but Chappell’s version.’ I really just did it for fun. I’m not switching genres or anything."

More on Chappell Roan's The Giver

Roan first debuted The Giver on Saturday Night Live in November 2024. Since then, she has been building excitement through a series of promotional campaigns.

Billboard ads across the U.S. have been spotted featuring the singer in various characters, such as a lawyer, a plumber, a private investigator, and a construction worker. Each character corresponds to a special edition 7-inch vinyl release of the single.

Announcing the release date of The Giver, Chappell Roan penned an Instagram post, which read:

"@dan_nigro and I wrote this together and it was so fun!!! We’ve never done a country song and I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bon fires, grocery stores and karaoke bars."

She continued:

"Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is.. hmm right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for yall *✲☆⋆"

Though Chappell Roan is enjoying experimenting with different sounds, she remains rooted in pop. She is preparing for her next full-length pop album.
