MARINA (formerly of Marina and the Diamonds) founded Queenie Records after leaving Atlantic Records in May 2022; she alluded to this record in a 2024 interview with Rolling Stone. Under the new label, MARINA released Butterfly, an alt-pop chamber-pop song about personal change, on February 21, 2025 which is part of her new album Princess of Power.

Shared on April 22, 2025, by MARINA's official Instagram account, a stunning green-and-black graphic showcased the thirteen tracks of this new album arranged in chronological order.
