The British singer-songwriter Edward Christopher Sheeran, commonly known as Ed Sheeran, who is considered to be one of the biggest pop stars in the world, with chart-topping hits, a huge global following, and record-breaking sales, recently appeared on Alex Cooper's podcast, Call Her Daddy.
When Cooper asked him if he had ever been invited to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, the pop star revealed that he had only been asked if he would perform along with another artist, which he was fine with. Sheeran said:
"There was a conversation about 10 years ago to go on with someone, and I think that’d be the only way that I would do it at the moment."
The "Castle on the Hill" singer further added:
"I don’t think English artists are— there are some that have the pizazz… but me going up there and being like, ‘Here’s the The A Team, and here’s Perfect.’ I can’t picture myself doing it… I would definitely go on and do it with someone, just to do the Super Bowl, but I don’t think my set lends itself to that.. You’ve gotta do what suits you."

The 34-year-old singer has sold over 200 million records globally in his music career, making him one of the best-selling music artists internationally. As per certain reports, Ed was declared the highest-grossing solo live music artist of the 2010s. He was also named Artist of the Decade by The Official UK Charts Company in 2019, as he had the most combined success in the UK Album and Singles in the 2010s.
Not the first time Sheeran faced a question regarding Super Bowl Performance
The "Shape of You" singer, in a 2023 interview with Andy Cohen on his Deep & Shallow podcast, explained why he wouldn't be the best fit for performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
The pop star Sheeran, who is frequently on tour and performs live shows, said he might now be the right one to perform at one of America's biggest stages. Sheeran explained in the podcast that he was not interested in headlining the entire show, but he would surely consider performing as a guest. The singer said:
"There was a conversation a while ago — I think it was when Coldplay did it — of me going up to play ‘Thinking Out Loud.’ I think that would be the only way I’d do it, is if I was joining someone else."
However, according to the pop star, performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show is more like an American thing. The recipient of multiple music awards, Sheeran also mentioned some of the previous artists who performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, such as Prince, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, and admitted that he is not like them. The "Shivers" singer said:
"Like all of these amazing performers — I’m just not that. I’m not going to have dancers on stage, I’m not going to have fireworks on stage like The Weeknd. That’s not me. I don’t think anyone wants to see me do the Super Bowl."
