The Pretty Girl singer-songwriter, Clairo, performs one of her most popular songs after several years. Well, it was not a choice that she made, but someone special convinced her. In a recent interview with Seventeen, Claire Elizabeth Cottrill, or Clairo, which is her professional name, opened up about a bunch of things, including her personal life.
The Grammy-nominated global sensation won the hearts of millions with her soft and melodic voice and has made quite a journey to reach where she is now. Her first song, Pretty Girl, released in 2017, turned out to be a huge hit, went viral, and gained major attention, catapulting her to international fame. Following that, in 2018, after a record deal, she released her debut EP, Diary 001.
During Clairo's interview with Seventeen, among the several questions she was asked, one was related to her most popular song, Sofia, which was a part of her 2019 album Immunity. Interestingly, not many people would know this, but the song Sofia is about her first-ever crushes on women that she witnessed in the media. Not to mention, the 26-year-old singer also shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) explaining this in 2019. Sofia was Clairo's first song that was included in the Hot 100 in 2020.
In February 2025, Clairo performed at the Laneway Festival in Australia and New Zealand, which was headlined by Charli XCX, who happens to be a close friend of hers. The song, Sofia was not a part of her tracklist, but when Charli asked her to play it, Clairo couldn't refuse her. In the interview, she revealed the reason she was not performing the song was because they had already performed it way too many times at numerous shows. Hence, she decided not to play it anytime soon.
It was after several years that Clairo performed Sofia, and that too, along with Charli XCX in Australia. When asked about it, Clairo said:
"It’s so funny—I didn’t think people would mind that I didn’t play it, but it became a problem. I got myself into a pickle."
When Charli asked Clairo about why she wasn't playing Sofia, she replied:
"I don’t play it. Don’t you have any songs where you’re just like, ‘Man, we’ve done it a lot’?"
However, Charli was successful in convincing her to play the song. Eventually, both of them came up with the amazing idea to perform the song together, making it more special.
The "bedroom pop" artist, Clairo, further added:
"Well, if anyone can make me sing it again, I think it would be you, Miss Charli."
