Talks concerning the rap legend's academic endeavors have been sparked by recently rediscovered images of Kendrick Lamar attending a class at UCLA in 2022. The pictures, which were first posted on TikTok, show Lamar sitting in a lecture hall with other students, paying close attention, taking notes, and occasionally looking at his phone. The student commented, “I didn’t realize who he was at that time.”

Millions of people saw the image with the comment, "pov: just a normal day at UCLA" and followers began to speculate about what the Compton native could have been studying. Some made fun of him for enrolling in classes to "master his pen," while others connected his attendance at the school to the reflective subjects he addressed in his songs.

Additional context for the encounter was offered by the student who first shared the pictures, who expressed astonishment at discovering Kendrick Lamar's identity until after the lecture. The student commented,

“He was incredibly kind and humble. I didn’t realize who he was at that time … I just saw people asking for photos, and I took some too. It wasn’t until later that someone told me who he was.”

UCLA took action as rumors spread, confirming on X, that the photos were authentic, writing,

"Photos from 2022, but the lesson stays the same—UCLA is where you level up.”

Fans speculated that Kendrick Lamar had taken psychology classes to improve his narrative and get a deeper grasp of human behavior, but this acknowledgement did little to allay their curiosity about what he was learning.

The notion that Kendrick Lamar was honing his storytelling abilities through academic learning is a strong one, even if no formal documents support the topic of his studies.

The rediscovered images have surfaced during a period of Kendrick Lamar's unheard-of triumph. His Super Bowl halftime performance drew a record-breaking 133.5 million viewers earlier this month, setting a new record for halftime performances worldwide.

He is still at the top of the charts in terms of music. His most recent hit, "Luther," just surpassed "Not Like Us" at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, making him one of the few performers to replace himself at the top. Lamar has established himself as one of the most important personalities in modern hip-hop since he now holds four of the top five spots on the list.

Even though Kendrick Lamar hasn't talked about his time at UCLA, his appreciation for education is widely acknowledged. He encouraged Compton College graduates to seek lifelong study and personal development in his 2023 graduation address. His ability to include intricate storylines in his lyrics distinguishes him from many of his contemporaries, and his music frequently expresses a strong intellectual interest.
