The musician released Chromakopia in October 2024, earning his third No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 299,500 album units in its first week, his highest ever. According to Billboard, he is currently on his Chromakopia World Tour, with one more show in L.A. before stops in Oakland and Sacramento.
Tyler, The Creator said his mother was his biggest supporter
In an episode of SpringHill, Tyler, The Creator sat down with Maverick Carter to discuss his career. He shared that his mother has always encouraged him to stay out of trouble and focus on his music.
She is his biggest supporter, though sometimes overly enthusiastic. Seeing his achievements, like winning awards and working with Louis Vuitton, has brought her to tears because she never imagined experiencing such moments.
Coming from a tough background, she is proud that he has stayed on the right path, avoiding legal issues, addiction, or scandals, and fulfilling everything he set out to do. During an interview with Billboard in December 2024, Tyler said he was surprised to learn that Chromakopia did well on the charts.
“First week number one was like alright cool, sick, kind of figured it’s been a while. Second week like ‘Oh, these n**gas really listening.’ Third week was like ‘Alright, what the f*ck is going on?’”
When Maverick Carter asked about his initial days in music, Tyler, The Creator said:
“I was a real life child who only cared about music, like on my birthday six or seven, I just wanted CDs.”
Tyler mentioned that he learned music by listening and studying the craft. He learned to play piano by himself after he tried playing Andre 3000’s She’s Alive. At that time, he couldn’t read music but practiced by listening and then playing the notes.
