When vocalist Kyle Jacobs died by suicide in 2023, his wife and singer Kellie Pickler looked back at what she learned from her late husband. Back then, she shared that during a difficult time, she followed Jacobs’ advice to stay calm and composed when unsure of what to do. She decided to follow that advice.
However, a legal struggle followed between Pickler and her in-laws in November 2024. This month, Kyle Jacobs’ parents, Reed and Sharon, legally sought information about their son's last rites from Harpeth Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
They allegedly looked for communication between their daughter-in-law and Harpeth. The funeral home has reportedly not followed this request.
Prior to that, Pickler stated that Reed and Sharon made a list of certain possessions and requested that the singer give them these items. They specifically asked for Kyle Jacobs’ collection of guns, baseball cards, certain accessories, instruments, and other devices.
Pickler then claimed she did not have some of those items, but her in-laws reportedly took some from her house without her knowing. According to US Weekly, Kellie Pickler’s legal documents stated that she requested the court to order Reed and Sharon to identify the items they took from her home.
Her in-laws disagreed with her statements in their own legal document submitted in November 2024. They stated that they took the items "at the express invitation" of Kellie Pickler and her legal team. They alleged that her lawyers were there to facilitate the transfer.
Kellie Pickler and Kyle Jacobs had a private wedding in 2011
As per the latest updates by In Touch, Kellie Pickler hired attorney John I. Harris, who works for the law firm Schulman, LeRoy & Bennett. He will work together with her current legal team, comprising William Harbison, Lisa Helton, and Andrea Sinclair.
In 2019, Kellie Pickler sat down with Nick Offerman and Kelly Clarkson on the latter's show. While speaking about American Idol, she shared that she eloped with Kyle Jacobs. She recalled that they had planned a big wedding in Nashville, but they never got around to sending out the invitations.
Looking at the guest list, she realized she didn’t care for many of the people on it and didn’t even know some of them. The whole event started to feel overwhelming, like a big production. So, she suggested they skip it and elope instead, and Kyle Jacobs was on board. They decided to keep it private and went off on their own, believing that everyone should do what feels right for them.
Kelly Clarkson pointed out that Kellie Pickler had a very unusual honeymoon destination, Baghdad. Pickler explained that it was true. She had been involved with the USO for years and already had a trip scheduled.
So after getting married, she and Kyle Jacobs boarded a plane and traveled to Iraq, where they spent their honeymoon. At each military base they visited, the soldiers jokingly prepared a "honeymoon suite" for them, which made the experience even more memorable.
